For someone who needs it- Poem

If I could wade waters with you

I would take you to the lake

you tried to drown your misery in

and rescue you from that bully

who tries every day to extinguish

your light.

As you dried your tears,

I'd hold up a mirror to let you see

every ounce of goodness

you have bestowed on this earth:

Every scrape you’ve bandaged,

every lonely moment you lightened,

every hug you have given,

every broken heart you’ve consoled,

every person you have championed for.

I would tell you that in this world

you’re so sure doesn’t need you,

there are people hoping

for something only you

have the heart to give.
