Butchering a Beautiful Dickinson Poem- Poem

Despair is a thing with leathery wings

and talons that lurks in the mind,

and tacitly threatens- ceaselessly.

This monster clings to my back

and perseveres like a storm- its perpetuity-

I’m in the eye of a hurricane of horrors.

It chills me- Alienates me

Yet never- once-

have I had the strength to leave it behind.
